Cookie Policy
Version 2.0 — effective date:
This policy explains what we store on your device, why, and how to control it. It supplements our Privacy Policy, which covers personal data more generally.
Right now, before you choose anything, this site stores nothing on your device except the record of the choice you make in the banner. Analytics and advertising storage is loaded only after you switch it on. Declining costs you nothing: every page remains fully readable and every link keeps working.
1. What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store, and that the browser sends back on later visits. Related technologies do the same job by other means: local storage and session storage keep data in the browser without sending it automatically, while pixels and click identifiers in a URL let a partner recognise a visit. The law treats all of these the same way, so this policy does too.
A cookie is first-party when it is set by vervantis.online and third-party when it is set by another company whose code runs on the page.
2. Categories we use
Strictly necessary — always on
Required for the site to work and to remember your privacy choice. No consent is required for these under Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive, and they cannot be switched off. They carry no advertising identifier and are not used to profile you.
| Name | Type / provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
cookieConsent | Local storage · first party (vervantis.online) | Stores which cookie categories you accepted or rejected and when, so we do not ask again and can demonstrate consent as Art. 7(1) GDPR requires | 12 months, or until you clear it |
wb_pop_* | Session storage · first party | Remembers that a notice has already been shown in this browsing session, so it is not repeated on every page | Deleted when you close the tab |
Analytics — only after you switch it on
Helps us see which guides are actually read and where people stop reading, so we can improve them. Legal basis: your consent, Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. Off by default. If you decline, none of the following is set.
| Name | Type / provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Analytics identifier | Cookie or local storage · our analytics provider | Distinguishes one visit from another so that page views and reading depth can be counted without identifying you by name | Up to 14 months |
Advertising and affiliate measurement — only after you switch it on
Lets us measure whether the advertising that funds this site works, and lets an affiliate partner be credited for a referral they actually sent. Legal basis: your consent, Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. Off by default.
| Name | Type / provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_uetsid, _uetvid, MUID | Cookie · Microsoft Advertising (Bing) — third party | Measures whether a click on one of our Microsoft Advertising campaigns led to a visit, and reports conversions in aggregate | Session to 13 months |
msclkid, gclid, utm_*, campaignid | URL click identifiers · first party, forwarded to the partner | Identifies which advertisement or campaign brought you here, so the visit can be attributed to it | Not stored by us beyond the visit; see the partner's policy |
| Affiliate network identifier | Cookie · our affiliate network — third party | Credits a sign-up or purchase to the partner who referred it, so the commission is paid correctly | Up to 90 days |
Third-party cookies in this category are set by those companies, not by us. We do not control them and cannot read them. Their own privacy notices govern that data — for Microsoft Advertising, see privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement.
3. What we deliberately do not use
- No social media share buttons, like buttons or embedded feeds.
- No third-party font or CDN requests — typefaces and stylesheets are served from our own server, so no outside company learns your IP address just because you opened a page.
- No session-recording, heatmap or mouse-tracking tools.
- No fingerprinting intended to identify you across sites without storage.
- No cookie walls: you are never required to accept anything to read the content.
4. How to give, change or withdraw consent
The banner appears on your first visit with every optional category switched off. "Reject all" is presented alongside "Accept all" and takes the same single click, as the European Data Protection Board requires.
To change your mind later, use the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page. It reopens the banner so you can switch categories on or off. Withdrawal takes effect immediately and is as easy as consenting, as Article 7(3) GDPR requires. Withdrawing does not make earlier processing unlawful.
5. Controlling storage in your browser
Independently of our banner, every major browser lets you block or delete cookies and site data. Blocking everything may break sites that need cookies to function, though this one will still be readable.
- Chrome — Settings › Privacy and security › Third-party cookies / Delete browsing data
- Firefox — Settings › Privacy & Security › Cookies and Site Data
- Safari — Settings › Privacy › Manage Website Data
- Edge — Settings › Cookies and site permissions
You can also opt out of interest-based advertising across many networks at once:
- youronlinechoices.eu — the EDAA opt-out for the EU
- optout.networkadvertising.org — Network Advertising Initiative
- optout.aboutads.info — Digital Advertising Alliance
- Microsoft advertising preferences
These opt-outs are themselves stored in your browser, so they are lost if you clear your browser data or switch device.
6. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We do not load any optional storage without an explicit opt-in, so a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal cannot be overridden by us: the default state of this site already matches what those signals ask for.
7. Changes to this policy
If we add or remove a partner, or change a purpose or duration, we will update the tables above and the effective date. Where a change requires fresh consent we will show the banner again rather than assume your earlier choice still applies.
